Meeting with Lynn

Suggestion:

1. What 3D technology can bring to character design for animation/games
2. You have produced a number of drawings, but to inform our process and to support our reasoning behind our design decisions, it may be useful to research other series which have been updated.
3. Try to compare old designs with new and make observations about what has changed and why you think these changes have been made.
4. Why decisions have been made during your process, look at the story/world or any changes to the universe that have been made.
5. It may be useful to identify a number of changes that are made when a story/character is revised in 3D.  These changes would provide you with a number of methods used in industry to revise a character concept.  This could help to inform the changes you make in the character designs.
6. If any of these things change in an updated version, this will visually impact on the character.
7. Researching character design processes, the differences between designing a character for 2D and designing one for 3D and also ways characters are revised for today's audience.
8. It will be useful to create a profile of the character as he exists at the moment.

Agreed Action Points

  • Research character design for 2D and 3D characters.  Identify any differences and how these may impact on your process
  • Study other character revisions/updates and identify changes in design/story/universe etc.  Try to form these changes into a set of methodologies or approaches to character revision that can inform your process this year.
  • continue development of digital painting skills
  • explore sculpting using Zbrush/Mudbox
